I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love the summer. It just seems like there is something fun to do all of the time. It’s great to wake up in the morning and be warm when you go outside and those summer barbecues in the evening are absolutely divine. That isn’t even to mention watching sunsets and not being freezing while you are doing it and enjoying everything about the great outdoors. Something else that we really appreciate about the summer is a nice pool party.
Most of us can relate to the enjoyment of hanging out at the pool. It doesn’t matter if we are in the water or not, it just seems to be a refreshing environment. Apparently, it is not just humans who enjoy a good pool party but even dogs can enjoy it as well. That was the case with Rogue, Greyson, Bean, Henry, Loki, Ozzi, Benito and Polo. They are shelter dogs and they got to take a swim for a day.
You can find these dogs at the Maricopa County animal care and control. Most people call them shelter dogs but we call them some of the luckiest strays in the world.
Each dog had a volunteer on hand to make sure they were safe while swimming. The pool area is actually designed just for dogs. It is only 18 inches deep and has large decks and a waterfall.
The dogs were having a blast; running around the pool and having a nice splash. It was a welcome break from life inside the shelter. Sometimes, it can be stressful for a dog to live so long in a shelter so it is nice that they got outside for a while.
“We are grateful to Second Home Pet Resort in Phoenix for giving our dogs a chance to escape the extreme heat,” Melissa Gable, communications supervisor for the shelter, told PEOPLE in an email. “Not only did the pool time keep the dogs cool, it also provided socialization and enrichment away from the shelter environment.”
We think this was a great idea. Have fun at the pool!
And they're off…..
