The world is home to some 8.7 million different species of animals on land, in the air and under the ocean. It is also estimated that we only know about approximately 24% of those species. Even if there were only 1 million or even just 1000, how many of them could you personally name? Quite obviously, there is diversity on the earth that makes it a pleasure to learn more about the life that is around us.
Some of these animals are going to come as quite a surprise to you and they are so unusual, you might be shocked that you had never heard about them before. At the same time, there are also animals that are so terrifying, you just hope you never run into them in real life. The following is more than a list of 19 unknown creatures, it is an amazing compilation of the life that exists around us that has eluded us up until this time.

1. Venezuelan Poodle Moth
Found in Venezuela in 2009, it looks somewhat like a combination between a poodle and an alien.
2. Glaucus Atlanticus
Sometimes known as the Blue Dragon, it is a type of deep sea slug. You can often find it in warm ocean water as it floats close to the surface.
3. Dumbo Octopus
This little umbrella Octopus is not only adorable, it is named after Disney’s Dumbo.
4. Macropinna Microstoma
You will have to go down some 2000 feet into the ocean to find this fish. It doesn’t move around a lot but it is awesome.

5. Irrawaddy Dolphin
Found in the Bay of Bengal near Southeast Asia, it is a cute dolphin without a beak.
6. Lowland Streaked Tenrec
You would have to travel to Madagascar are to find this mammal.
7. Red-Lipped Batfish
This fish doesn’t swim very good and it tends to walk along the bottom of the ocean near the Galapagos Islands.
8. Sunda Colugo
This flying lemur can be found in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. It isn’t actually a lemur and it really doesn’t fly but it can do some gliding. It tends to be out and about at night eating plants.
9. Blue Parrotfish
You will find this bright blue fish in the Caribbean Sea and the Western Atlantic oceans in tropical waters. They spend most of their time looking for food.

10. Glass Frog
This South American frog is rather unusual with its transparent abdomen.
11. Panda Ant
It looks like its name, a cross between an ant and a panda. It is actually a wingless wasp that is sometimes known as a cow killer.
12. Fossa
This interesting mammal lives in Madagascar. It looks like a cat but there is some room for debate.
13. Tufted Deer
This deer is found in central China and it has a tuft of black hair on his forehead along with canines that look like fangs. It tends to spend most of its time wandering about alone.
14. Honduran White Bat
With white fur and a leaf-shaped nose, this little bat is difficult to spot.
15. Japanese Spider Crab
Found near Japan, it is an arthropod with up to an 18 foot leg span. It looks mean but it is quite gentle.
16. Saiga Antelope
The flexible nose on this animal makes it quite unique. It is an antelope that is critically endangered.

17. Leafy Seadragon
You will find this sea dragon near the western coast of Australia. Those protrusions you see make a nice camouflage.
18. Atretochoana Eiselti Or ‘Penis Snake’
Well, this is awkward. It’s not really a snake but it is a species of caecilian
19. Spiny Bush Viper
You will find this venomous snake in central Africa.
