If there is something that all of us appreciate, it’s a story with a happy ending. For many of us, it is even better when it involves a stray animal that ends up in an ideal situation. That was what happened in this story but it didn’t start out in the best way possible.
Ann had rescued many dogs in her Mississippi home but one night when she was outside walking her own dog, she saw something in the bushes. She just thought that it was another stray cat or dog so she went inside to get some food.
“We get several dogs and cats dropped off in this neighborhood so I figured this was another one”
Ann began to speak softly to the visitor inside of the bushes. What happened next took her by surprise.
“What came out from under that bush was a large, beautiful cat with a white tip on his tail. I said, ‘Aren’t you a fancy thing?”
This poor feline looked like it was in need of a good meal so she went inside and brought out some food. He was skittish and shy and backed away when the food was put in front of him. After eating, he left but he was back the next night.
It didn’t take long before Ann fell in love with this feline. He continued to come back on a nightly basis and she continued to provide him with food. Each time he was fed, she would bring the bowl closer to her porch.
“After a week, he was on the porch, morning and evening, waiting. He stayed for a month. My husband figured we already had enough animals with a dog and two cats and wanted me to take the cat to the animal shelter. The next morning, I reluctantly loaded him up in a cat carrier and off we went. I dropped him off and an attendant took him to the back where the cages are. When he brought me my carrier, he said that the cat was back there banging his head against the iron cage door.”
Ann cried the entire way back home but she didn’t have a choice. It turns out the cat could sense her feelings, although she didn’t know it at the time.
When she went home, she went to the shelter website to see if the cat had been posted for adoption. She was unable to find the listing. She called for the next few days but wasn’t learning anything. She thought that perhaps the cat had even been adopted before they had the opportunity to post the picture on the website. Little did she know that the cat had actually escaped only 20 minutes after being dropped off at the shelter.
Although she didn’t know it, the cat wasn’t running away, it was running home to Ann.
When Ann woke up the next morning, she could hear her husband talking in the kitchen. She decided to get up and see what was going on.
“I looked at the clock and wondered who was at my house at 5:30 am. I got up to see and what I found was nothing short of a miracle. I saw a cat, sitting at my husband’s feet, talking to him. I kept trying to focus on the cat and when he flipped his tail around, I saw proof. There was the white tip. I started crying and quietly said ‘Oh my baby, Hi Fancy.’ He turned, saw me and ran to me, talking and squealing the whole way. I truly think he was saying ‘I found you! I’m home now.’”
Although her husband wanted Ann to take the cat to the shelter, he was still having second thoughts.
“This cat spent a month traveling along busy streets, railroad lines, and rough neighborhoods trying to find me,” Ann said. “I think he had a guardian angel looking out for him, directing him back to my house. I love him so much and feel we were meant to be together. He belongs here. Mr. Fancy will never want for a home, food or love again.”
Mr. Fancy is one happy cat! His owners are happy too.
I told you the story had a happy ending.
