The time Alana Hadley, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, came home with her new adopted kitty, Ares, she was happy to support him settling into his brand new life — but Ares looked worried.
The 4-month-old cat was adopted from the Wisconsin Humane Society’s Door County Campus. It is a reasonable guess that a homeless kitty would be pleased to be accepted to his permanent home for the very first time. However, there was certainly something troubling Ares. He would not quit crying regardless of what Hadley did.
“I originally thought he was meowing because he wanted attention and to be by us,” Hadley informed The Dodo. Along with plenty of love and care, she attempted offering Ares stuffed animals to help calm him.
But whatever Hadley would do, Ares would at some point begin meowing once again. And Hadley had a suspicion as to what was actually not right.
“I realized it’s probably because he was never away from his sister and wanted her,” Hadley shared.
Ares had arrived at the shelter as a stray by the end of last year with his sister, Aphrodite, a gray tabby kitty.
When Hadley had visited the shelter she had been thinking about rescuing the two cats, but somebody had previously placed an application to take Aphrodite. So Hadley had just had the opportunity to adopt Ares.
But Hadley informed the shelter the evening of Ares’ adoption exactly how distressed he was. “He has been almost nonstop meowing until he goes to sleep and then meows again when he’s awake,” she shared. “We think he misses his sister and is grieving being taken away from her.”
But fortune was on Ares and Aphrodite’s side — Aphrodite’s adoption wound up being dropped. And Hadley was sure of what she needed to do.
Although Hadley has a child along the way, and currently has a dog, she simply would not deny Ares the only thing that would make his forever home really great — his sister.
So she took home the two of them.
Ares and Aphrodite today are enjoying their brand new place. They are presently using most of their time in the area that will turn into the baby’s playroom. And when they are not having fun with each other, they’re cuddling — or sneaking up on the dog, Sisko.
Because of Hadley, Ares and Aphrodite will never be separated again.
