The great people at The Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center in Northern India know how difficult the lives of their rescue elephants have been right before arriving at the shelter, so when it came time for the very cold winter, the volunteers knew the elephants’ health could be compromised if something wasn’t done about it.
So what better solution than to knit giant sweaters for all the elephants to keep them warm? That’s what they did. Each sweater takes up to 4 weeks to make but once ready, they’re not only warm, they’re super fashionable and cool-looking.
“It is important to keep our elephants protected from the bitter cold during this extreme winter, as they are weak and vulnerable having suffered so much abuse making them susceptible to ailments such as pneumonia,” Kartick Satyanarayan, cofounder of the shelter said. We think it’s safe to say: mission accomplished!
