When we look online at pictures of baby animals, we probably can’t help but have a smile on our face. After all, they are miniatures of the adults and even if they aren’t destined to be the cutest animal when they grow up, they are still adorable when they are young. Little Jerry was very similar. As a tiny lamb, he was naturally cute but as the runt of the litter, he was also neglected.
Jerry struggled during the early part of his life. His mother didn’t take the effort to feed him as much as he needed. His two healthy siblings got the majority of the attention and his health declined. His life changed, however, once he was brought to a very special place. It is the Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary and they offered Jerry something that he needed.
Megan Mostacci started the sanctuary along with her husband on the family farm in Ontario. It all came together after they nursed a goat back to health last spring.
Jerry was welcomed to the sanctuary when he was only 4 days old. He already had a respiratory infection and inflamed joints.
He did respond to the medication but what he received on the sanctuary was far better. He got a boost to his mental health thanks to the two dogs who also lived at the sanctuary, Lincoln and Drake.
Lincoln is an Australian Shepherd and Drake is a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever. They welcomed Jerry to the farm and provided him with plenty of affection. It wasn’t long before they formed a tight bond.
It only took a few hours for them to be hanging out on the couch together after Jerry arrived. Megan left the room and when she came back, here is what she saw.
“This afternoon, Jerry was looking at Drake on the couch so I set him up beside him. I left for a couple minutes and came back to this. Both animals were so happy. I love to see how different species can form a bond.
It is crazy to me that this dog treats a lamb better than a lot of humans would. He knows that Jerry is a friend – not food. Keep fighting Jerry – you have a family who loves you so much!”
Jerry might have learned a little something from the cat. It looks like Drake wants to help others, regardless of their size. This looks like a wonderful place to take a nap.
It looks like Jerry found a best friend in Drake but even Lincoln will get in on the cuddles.
There are plenty of kisses as well.
Jerry gets along with other animals on the farm. He has made friends with pigs, geese and goats.
Jerry will even share Drake with the other animals but he does take the best spot.
He will sometimes hang out with Molly, so he will mingle with his own.
When you learn what is behind Jerry and his life, your heart will reach out to him. Thanks to this loving sanctuary and the animals who live there, Jerry has a forever home.
