Finding a 1-day old kitten on a footpath with its umbilical cord still attached and also its eyes closed, was a surprise for Kathryn from New Zealand. The color changing kitten amazes her to this day! She checked with neighbors to see if anyone owned this teeny gray ball of fur, and looked for the mother as well. This kitten was all alone, and Kathryn immediately fell in love. She named the gray kitten Bruce.
Kathryn never knew that she had herself a color changing kitten. The first few months were filled with around the clock feedings and numerous emergency vet visits. Bruce was determined to survive because he had a story to tell. He was born a magician: full of tricks and escapades.
To begin with, Kathryn wasn’t sure what type of kitten Bruce was. After a while, he started getting dark spots on his face and paws. Kathryn thought Bruce resembled a Siamese. As each week passed, Bruce’s gray coat started turning black. By three months old, Bruce was completely black. A magical trick had Kathryn stumped. Bruce was the cat version of David Copperfield. His color changing trick was a complete success!
Bruce came into this world as a gray kitten with blue eyes, and as time passed, he reinvented himself. The color changing kitten amazed everyone and turned from a gray kitten into a jet black cat with emerald green eyes. Finally, Bruce was himself! Changing coat colors isn’t magic, it is called fever coat and happens to kittens because their mom suffers stress or sickness while pregnant. Don’t tell Bruce that his color changing coat is due to this, for he likes thinking he is a magician and loves the attention that goes with it. His feline sister Jager agrees! Most of all though is the love that Kathryn has for her kitten. You can see more and follow Bruce and his magic tricks on Facebook.
