Cats are great pets. They are very unique animals in their own way. Intelligent, intrusive, sleepy… but at the same time, also extremely restless. It might seem like a contradiction, since they can sleep 18 hours a day, but the other six hours they can really have fun. They play pranks everywhere and in many different ways. In view of this, many humans have chosen to make their cats into quiet, homely beings, but that does not ensure that when they have the opportunity, they won’t do a mischief.

And this was well known by Heather Bardi, a resident of New Orleans, southeast Louisiana, in the United States. When her home became too small for her cat, Admiral Galacticat, she decided to buy a leash to take him out for walks in the garden, until she felt safe enough to leave him alone. Heather began to watch her cat take quiet naps outside and play with other cats in the neighborhood.

But behind all the catlike playfulness, there was an embarrassing secret. For this human soon found a tank top and a pair of socks on her porch. At that moment she threw them away, thinking they came from a drunk person. But more clean clothes began to appear around the garage, so her initial theory no longer seemed so plausible.

“Once more items started appearing, I thought I’d grab the shirt and take it out of the trash in case they were from a person who was playing a joke on me and wanted all the evidence together.” – said Heather Bardi to The Dodo.

To find out who the culprit was, she installed a homemade security camera outside her house. She downloaded a recording application onto her old cell phone and taped it to a pole on her front porch. When she saw the footage the next day, she couldn’t believe it. The thief was none other than her sweet little kitten, Admiral Galacticat. So after finding the culprit, all she had to do was find the victims and give them their things back. So she made a cardboard sign and stapled it to the post on the sidewalk.

No one in the neighborhood claimed the stolen goods. So Heather went on social networking sites, posting on NextDoor and a garage sale group, about these cat burglaries. Until finally word of mouth led the her to the victims of the stolen clothes. Thanks to a neighbor, she learned that her kitty was stealing clothes from a shared laundry in an apartment, affecting different neighbors. “It was definitely the strangest way to meet the neighbors (…) Until now, almost two weeks ago, I had no idea that my angel was also a petty thief,” said Heather Bardi after laughing with her neighbors. And yes, her cat still brings her “gifts” every time she goes out.
