It’s typical for felines to demonstrate their gratitude and love by delivering presents for their humans. These presents are, in most cases, the outcome of a hunting session and have to do with rodents, birds or other little critters in a state of great misery.
As you can imagine, these kinds of presents are never accepted by their unappreciative owners. This probably leads to frustration and hurt to our cat buddies who are not able to realize why those valuable presents are being consistently turned down.
Such was the situation with Baloo, a young kitty with an owner named Ben. “She always looked so confused and sad, which made me feel pretty bad,” Ben said to the Dodo.
Baloo is not simply any senior cat though. She instantly discovered that Ben has different preferences in gifts, and headed out to search for something better. “It took a couple of months of me rejecting her gifts for her to start bringing me leaves. They were always big, nice looking leaves,” Ben shared. “It was such a relief from the live mice every morning that I would show my gratitude by taking the leaf and playing with it while she sat on my chest.”
“She knew she was doing something right now.”
Showing herself to be an exceptionally smart and empathetic kitty, Baloo cautiously picked only the perfect leaves for her fortunate human, much to the relief of the local wild creatures. Nowadays however, she has identified lazier approaches to express love for Ben. “She will comfort me when I’m feeling down,” Ben told the Dodo. “She’s not a lap cat by any means, but when I’m upset or nervous she will hop up onto me, push me back so I lay down and then she’ll just sit on my chest purring like mad and nuzzling my face with her nose. She’s a very loving cat.”
