When anybody reaches the century mark in their life, it is an outstanding event. Lillian Grant reached that moment three years ago and now, she was ready for her 103rd birthday. Unfortunately, it was not the happiest event because her beloved cat, Sammy, had passed away recently. It left her with a broken heart but the staff at the assisted living facility was ready to step up to the plate.
This event took place at her home, the Ridgeview Gardens Assisted Living in St. George, Utah. As the staff was preparing for her birthday party, Debbie Presley, an administrator, decided to give her the best gift ever.
Debbie asked Lillian what she wanted more than anything else and Lillian responded, “A sweet cat like Sammy.”
It seems as if her birthday wish was already in the works. You see, Debbie’s brother works at the St. George animal shelter. They worked together to find a cat that would be perfect for Lillian.
The gift was a 9-year-old female calico, named Marley. She was dropped off at the shelter by a former owner who had also moved into an assisted living facility. That facility did not allow pets. The shelter had been looking for the perfect match for this feline because she is a people pleaser and the perfect “cuddle buddy.”
It was just what the doctor ordered!
The party took place on April 6. Joe, the man who worked at the shelter, brought Marley to surprise Lillian. She was absolutely thrilled with the guest that decided to make a surprise appearance at her birthday!
It took some time to convince her that Marley was there to stay. The tears were flowing! Lillian was obviously quite emotional over the gift but everyone who had a hand in it cried happy tears as well.
They gave these two a little cuddle time together and then they took Marley to Lillian’s room to get accustomed to his new, forever home. Lillian was fine with that and she was all too eager to do a little more snuggling.
She left her birthday party early and went straight to her room.
Marley is now adjusting nicely to his new life with Lillian. He won’t have to worry about going back to the shelter. If the day comes that Lillian is unable to care for him, Debbie has already stepped up to the plate and said she will provide for this lovely cat.
It’s wonderful when people work together to make something beautiful happened.
